From the 1929 "South Fork School" yearbook
The first school house in Fifield was built in 1880 on a
hill at the southern end of town, affording a beautiful view of the south
fork of the Flambeau and the endless forest beyond.
In three years the town had out-grown the little white schoolhouse on the
hill, so it was sold to be used as a drug store and a good-sized town-room
building was constructed at the opposite end of town.
In 1889 this old north school was sold, and a new, five room building was
erected on an attractive elevation west of town. In this building, for
many years, was developed the growing intellect of our rising generation.
In 1923 the school building was condemned by the state and after much
discussion is was agreed on by an overwhelming majority of the citizens of
the town that the old building be removed and a new, modern building,
adequate for all need of both High and Graded school, be erected on the site
of the old one.
The school was built in 1923. It was a modern building in every
respect giving the students the best available advantages.
